ONTARIO, CANADA — The Ontario government has taken actions that would make carbon monoxide (CO) detectors mandatory in all new residential buildings that contain fuel-burning appliances or a garage.
According to the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors of Canada (HRAC), several municipalities have passed local CO detector by-laws.
The new amendment to the Ontario Building Code expands the requirement for the detectors in new residential construction and establishes uniform provincial standards to provide for consistent application across all municipalities.
