Oct. 15, 2003: Harrisburg Airport Taps Johnson Controls For Expansion

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Harrisburg International Airport, located here, has selected Johnson Controls Inc., Milwaukee, to provide an integrated facility operations solution that includes building control, security, and life safety systems for its new 283,000-square-foot terminal building, multi-modal transportation center, and Amtrak train station. The contract is worth $1.8 million.

The centerpiece is a Metasys building management system that will integrate the new controls and life safety systems, and centralize operations. The systems Johnson Controls is installing and integrating involve HVAC, access control, and fire alarms.

"We selected Johnson Controls because its integrated, performance-based approach is best suited to accomplishing our goals and offers us the best value," said Alfred Testa Jr., director of aviation for the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority, which owns and operates Harrisburg International.

At Harrisburg International, the Metasys system will control the terminal's HVAC and access management systems, as well as integrate with its fire alarm system, closed circuit television, elevators, lighting systems, and emergency generators. It will also serve as an automated equipment maintenance management system and will help maximize energy efficiency by using advanced control and metering strategies for the new terminal's heating, cooling, and lighting systems.
