The Gastec 9500 Smoke Tube Kit is designed to help technicians visually determine the directional pattern and velocity of air currents to aid in the performance testing of ventilation systems. According to the manufacturer, these tubes provide a highly visible dense white smoke that flows with air currents in ductwork, ventilating systems, and heating systems. The kit is comprised of 10 smoke tubes with safety tube caps that allow the tubes to be reused, an aspirator bulb, and a tube tip breaker. The tubes are designed for up to 50 tests. The company says that to use the kit, break off both ends of the smoke tube, insert the tube into the aspirator bulb and squeeze the bulb. The reagent in the tube will react with the moisture in the air, generating the smoke, which will allow the air currents to be visible. Once the testing is completed, plug the tube with the safety tube cap and store the tube for the next test.
