The CMRS course is a 21-hour study/review class designed for those involved in a career relevant to the field of microbial mitigation, remediation, and indoor air quality (IAQ). Areas that will be covered include worker and occupant health and safety, environmental engineering controls for remediation projects, and effective practices for microbial remediation.

After completing the course, attendees will have the option to take the CMRS exam. Candidates must have two years of actual experience in the remediation field. According to Turn-Key, this requirement can be met by experience in several areas, including project management and mitigation and/or remediation. Also, CMRS candidates will need to demonstrate an understanding of the various aspects of microbial remediation on the exam. Each applicant is reviewed on an individual basis.

Charlie Wiles, executive director of AmIAQ Council, said, “We recognize the need for certifications for the microbial portion of the indoor air quality business and developed the Certified Microbial Remediation Supervisor. The CMRS designation indicates both knowledge and experience, and a certification board comprised of their peers’ awards each designation.”
