ME Customers Get a New Source Of Efficiency Project Funding
The Energy Efficiency Incentive Program credits customers’ accounts for up to 25% of the cost of an approved energy-efficiency project, based on energy savings, the utility said. Eligible projects can include lighting, climate control, processing improvements, and other measures that boost the efficiency of electricity use.
“CMP has given substantial bill credits to more than 200 Maine businesses through the Energy Efficiency Incentive,” said program administrator Brenda L. Hendrickson. “It helps our business customers control energy costs, improve competitiveness, and create jobs while supporting state policy on energy efficiency. With our new, expanded eligibility guidelines, we hope to receive even more applications.”
Hendrickson said applications from eligible businesses will be reviewed as they are received. Projects approved by year’s end, or until available funding is fully committed, will be locked in to receive credits if they are completed by the end of 2002.
CMP business customers whose peak energy demand is below 1,000 kW are eligible to apply. The recently raised demand threshold extends program eligibility to all but the largest of CMP’s business-customer classes.
To apply, customers need to send in a description of the efficiency project, including estimated costs and energy savings. Costs are defined as either the equipment for new construction projects or the total installation cost for retrofits. CMP says it may monitor and inspect the energy use of the measures.
