May 21, 2009: New Fluke Milliamp Clamp Meters Test but Don't Break the Loop

EVERETT, Wash. - Fluke Corp. has introduced two new milliamp (mA) clamp meters designed to help technicians test critical automation and control circuits without breaking the circuit or interrupting operations.

The new Fluke 772 and 773 Milliamp Clamp Meters join the Fluke 771 to deliver a full range of test and measurement capabilities. According to the company, now technicians in process plants, industrial plants, commercial buildings, and automation commissioning teams can choose exactly the range of capabilities they need.

The Fluke milliamp clamp meters are engineered to accurately measure the minute amounts of current (4 to 20 mA signals) that flow through control system circuits, without having to shut down the system, break the circuit, and insert a test instrument. Instead, sensitive current clamps placed on the wire detect and measure the current flowing through. According to Fluke, it is the only manufacturer making process mA clamp meters that don’t break the loop.

The result can be a significant savings in time and money. Fluke estimates that a technician could save about $588 to $1,038 a month, based on estimated hourly rates and the amount of time saved, using these milliamp clamp meters.

In addition to mA measure without breaking the loop, all models feature simultaneous mA and percent span readings, 0.01 mA resolution on 20 mA applications, detachable jaw, built-in flashlight, and IP 40 rating.
