May 13, 2004: ISO Considers Revisions To Unitary Standards

ARLINGTON, Va. - The air conditioning subcommittee of the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee 86 is balloting the revision of two unitary equipment draft standards affecting U.S. industry.

The standards are: ISO 5151R, "Non-ducted Air-Conditioners and Heat Pumps, Testing and Rating for Performance," and ISO 13253R, "Ducted Air-Conditioners and Air-to-Air Heat Pumps, Testing and Rating for Performance."

Both documents will be reviewed by the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute's (ARI's) Unitary Small and Large Equipment Sections for the purpose of developing a U.S. position. The ballot is due to ARI on July 16.

ISO Working Group 1, chaired by Bernard Hough of the United Kingdom, is responsible for the two air conditioning and heat pump standards and an additional related one, ISO draft 15042, "Multi-Split Systems." The working group will meet in Japan in early September to resolve any comments on the two balloted standards and to make final revisions to the draft of ISO 15042, which will be balloted later in September. It is expected that comments on ISO 5151 and 13253 may indicate the need for some changes to ISO draft 15042 before it is sent for a vote.
