March 15, 2010: DOE Webinar to Discuss How to Achieve Net Zero Energy Buildings Today

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Building Technologies Program is offering a free Webinar on Thursday, March 18, from 12:00-1:30 p.m. EDT titled “Getting to Net Zero Today Through a Performance-Based Design/Build Process.”

This summer, DOE will open the doors to a new building on the campus of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo. The design of the 220,000-square-foot Research Support Facilities focused on constructing a building with very low energy needs offset with on-site renewable energy generation.

To attain this energy performance, an integrated design/build team established Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification as a requirement and also set an energy use target of 25k Btu/square foot/year. Through this Webinar presentation, members of the project’s design/build team will demonstrate how net-zero energy buildings are achievable and marketable now.

Presenters include: Jeff Baker, director, Office of Laboratory Operations for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Golden Field Office; Bill Glover, deputy laboratory director and chief operating officer for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and Philip Macey, design-build project manager (LEED AP, AIA) for Haselden Construction.

The Webinar is free of charge, but you must register in advance to obtain the URL and password for logging on via the Internet and the phone number to connect to the audio. For more information and to register, visit www1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/webinars.html.
