Luxaire Helps Trick Teen's Truck

EDMOND, Okla. - The Luxaire® brand of Johnson Controls played a vital role in helping Charley, an 18-year-old from Edmond, Okla., achieve his dream of driving to college in his own truck. The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma requested help for the teen who has B-cell Lymphoma, a disease involving the immune system.

“Charley didn’t want just any truck,” said Traci Walton, who serves on the board of directors for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma. “He wanted the first truck his parents ever owned.”

His parents purchased the 1976 Chevrolet truck after they were married and saved it for Charley in the hope that he would be attending college one day. With a simple matte black paint job, requested by its owner, the truck has black rims and large rivets, tinted windows, a new stereo system, new upholstery, and new dashboard.

“It’s exactly what I wanted,” said Charley.

With the help of the Edmond Fire Department, the truck was presented in front of friends and family at a local park. Tim Lashar, Luxaire brand manager, was also on hand for the presentation.

“At Luxaire, our partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation is always a great success among dealers and distributors on both a national and local level,” said Lashar. “It makes them feel good about the work they are doing, especially when they know they are helping young people in their own communities.”
