Kysor Closing Plant Citing Surplus Capacity

CONYERS, GA — Kysor Warren is closing its manufacturing plant in Conyers, GA, but will continue to produce refrigeration equipment at its two plants in Columbus, GA. The Conyers plant, which employed 218 people, is reported to be shutting down May 19. The location was also the site of Kysor’s administrative offices, which will be moved to another location in the area, according to company officials.

Officials said the decision was based on “surplus capacity and new efficiencies.” They said Kysor products will continue to be available to contractors through customary distribution channels. The company plans a rollout of new products at the Food Marketing Institute Expo in Chicago in May.

In 1997, Kysor Warren was acquired by Scotsman Industries, which in turn was acquired in 1999 by Berisford PLC. Last year, Berisford changed its name to Enodis PLC and restructured its North American operations. Scotsman and another ice machine manufacturer, Ice-O-Matic, are part of the Food Service Group, and renamed Kysor Refrigeration is part of the Food Retail Group.
