June 17, 2003: ACCA Is Tracking State-By-State Mold Legislation

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) announced that it is tracking mold-related legislation that has been introduced in more than 21 states, and has made a regularly updated database on the bills and their status available to its members.

According to ACCA, the proposed legislation runs the gamut from simple resolutions expressing concern to major legislative overhauls. In California, for example, the state Senate passed a resolution that "declares the intent of the legislature to enact legislation." But in Montana, the governor signed into law major legislation that requires the disclosure of potential for mold in property that is sold, while also providing immunity for sellers, landlords, and property managers who comply with the disclosure requirements.

The table is updated as new information from state legislatures becomes available. It is accessible by members only by visiting www.acca.org/members/mold_tracking/. For more information, contact Hilary Atkins, ACCA’s corporate counsel, at hilary.atkins@acca.org.

In addition, ACCA announced that it has launched a special weekly briefing on mold and IAQ issues that gathers news and information from a number of sources and delivers the most relevant items in a concise summary format. These email-only "Executive Briefings" are available by subscription to members and non-members of the association. For more information, visit www.acca.org/briefings/.
