NEW YORK - Kaplan Inc. announced that its higher education division has acquired Total Technical Institute, a career-oriented post-secondary institution in Brooklyn, Ohio, providing technical and health care training. Kaplan plans to expand the school's programs, including the addition of an HVAC program.

"This is an important investment that will enable us to expand quality programs in health care and technology to the Cleveland area," said Gary Kerber, vice chairman of Kaplan Inc. and president and CEO of Kaplan Higher Education.

Total Technical Institute offers diploma programs in Computer and Communications Electronics, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Technology, Medical Office Specialist, and Pharmacy Technician. Kaplan plans to add an HVAC program, as well as Electrician and Medical Assistant programs.

The acquisition marks Kaplan Higher Education's first foray into the Cleveland area and third school in Ohio, expanding the company's number of campuses to 67 in 16 states. The acquisition is contingent upon regulatory approvals.
