July Unitary A/C Shipments Up 17%

ARLINGTON, VA — Combined U.S. factory shipments of 687,838 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for July jumped 17% compared to shipments from the same month last year, according to statistics from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI). Heat pump shipments of 128,774 were up 9%, compared to July 2001. Combined unitary shipments are up 6% through July.

ARI also says that July 2002 factory stocks were down 32,164 from June 2002 and down 80,914 from July 2001. Distributor inventories for July were down 69,958 units from June 2002 and down 240,028 units from July 2001.

July 2002 distributor shipments were up 14% from July 2001, with year-to-date shipments up 7%.
