July 3, 2003: Forum On Local Taxation’s Impact On Housing

WASHINGTON — As 47 of 50 states face budget deficits, state and local governments are searching for revenue from any possible source — including additional taxes impacting affordable housing, says the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Because of this, NAHB's Housing Credit Group and its program partners, the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association and Tax Credit Advisor, are bringing together experts to discuss how increasingly aggressive local tax assessments will affect the production of affordable housing.

The forum is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2003, from 9:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the John Hancock Conference Center, The John Hancock Room #201, 40 Trinity Place, Boston, MA; 617-572-7700.

Speakers will include: Robert Greer, president of Michaels Development, Marlton, N.J., and chair of NAHB's Housing Credit Group; experts from Reznick, Fedder and Silverman, tax accountants, Atlanta; experts from the law firm of Kutak Rock, LLP, Omaha, Neb.; representatives from the Boston Redevelopment Authority; Assessor Tom Jaconetty, chairman, Legal Committee, International Association of Assessing Officers and Chief Deputy Commissioner, Cook County Board of Appeals; and others.

Topics will include the politics of property tax assessment, and state and local efforts to protect affordable housing.
