ARLINGTON, Va. - Pepco Energy Services, a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings Inc., has been chosen to implement a comprehensive energy efficiency performance contract for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Thomas B. Finan and Joseph P. Brandenburg Centers.

Located in Cumberland, Md., the Thomas B. Finan Hospital Center and Joseph P. Brandenburg Center provide mental health services to adults and adolescents of Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington counties and adolescents of Howard, Carroll, and Montgomery counties.

As part of the state of Maryland Department of General Services' Indefinite Delivery Contract, the performance contract includes green, renewable solar energy. Pepco Energy Services will install an Advanced Daylighting System that uses a solar mirror array to track the sun's position using GPS technology. The reflected sunlight will illuminate indoor space, reducing electric energy consumption and providing environmental benefits.

The project also provides for a new energy management control system, water conservation, lighting upgrades, and ongoing maintenance over a 12-year period. Construction is underway, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

"Pepco Energy Services is excited to be able to guarantee the state of Maryland nearly $1 million in energy savings on this project," stated David Weiss, president of the Performance Management Group of Pepco Energy Services.
