Joseph Groh Foundation to Host Golf Tournament

TROPHY CLUB, Texas - Come April 29, the Joseph Groh Foundation - a Texas 501(c) 3 public charity focused on the HVAC industry - is hosting a golf outing at the Trophy Club Country Club in Trophy Club, Texas.

Pre-golf festivities begin at 11 a.m., and include a putting contest for prizes, drawing for a membership at the Trophy Club Country Club, a 50/50 cash drawing, and a $100,000 hole-in-one shootout. A shotgun start best ball tournament will follow on the Hogan course. Lunch and dinner will be served. In addition to awards for longest drive, most accurate drive, and closest to the pin, every par three hole will offer a chance to win a free golf getaway vacation for golfers scoring a hole-in-one. Participants in this event can sign up either as a single or as a foursome.

Groh has been employed in the HVAC industry for the past 35 years, and has worked for contractors, distributors, and manufacturers such as Lennox Industries, Titus, and PCI Industries. In June of 2008, Groh was seriously injured in a bicycle accident near Grapevine Lake, Texas, rendering him a quadriplegic.

The vision for setting up the foundation came as a result of the widespread support and assistance received from industry organizations, family, and friends. Family members who have been or are currently employed in the HVAC or construction industry include Groh’s grandfather, great uncles, father, uncle, cousin, brother, sister and son.

The NEWS, Air Systems Components, PCI Industries, Lennox Industries, Contracting Business Magazine, Allied Air Enterprises, Mitsubishi Electric, Callahan Roach Business Solutions, VLE Enterprises, Goodman Manufacturing, the Service Roundtable, Ragnar Benson Construction, and Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) have provided industry support for Groh, among others.

According to Groh, the foundation has three objectives.

• Provide financial assistance to employees in the HVAC/construction industry - and their relatives - who have suffered life altering injuries or illnesses.

• Provide a clearinghouse of information to those suffering from spinal cord injury through their Website.

• Encourage contractors to hire the disabled.

ONLINE AUCTION

Those outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area can still participate in the foundation’s fundraiser by bidding in an online auction. Between now and mid April, two online auctions will be conducted through the Website.

Some of the unique items for auction include a fighter pilot weekend for two in Las Vegas, a seven day Maui vacation for two at the Hyatt Regency resort on Kaanapali Beach, a Jason Kidd autographed basketball, Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan autographed baseballs, a NASCAR driving school experience, and a Dallas Cowboys helmet signed by Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith. Auction details can be found at www.biddingforgood.com/auction.
