CHANTILLY, Va. - The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA’s) College of Fellows is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2010-2011 academic year. An interactive application is available at www.smacna.org/scholarship. SMACNA encourages applicants to complete and submit the application form online. Applications must be submitted or postmarked no later than March 31, 2010.

College of Fellows scholarships are available to undergraduate students who are SMACNA contractors, employees of SMACNA contractors, SMACNA Fellows, employees of SMACNA chapters, employees of SMACNA National, SMACNA National associate members, and members of the families of all of these groups.

The College of Fellows currently is administering 24 active scholarships - six at the $2,000 per year level and 18 at the $3,000 per year level. The breakdown is as follows: three SMACNA scholarships at $2,000 per year and 15 College of Fellows Scholarships (12 for $3,000 and three for $2,000) per year. Plus, the College currently administers six endowed scholarships, each for four years, at $3,000 per year.

The endowments consist of two sponsored by the J.B. Rodgers Foundation, one sponsored by the Bay Area SMACNA chapter in memory of Richard DeBrine, one sponsored by Georgia-SMACNA in memory of Robert Harris, and one sponsored by SMACNA Chicago in memory of Marty and Victor Comforte. These scholarships are typically available once every four years. The College also administers a one-year, $3,000 Ernest R. Menold scholarship, which is sponsored by the Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity.

Starting in 2010, SMACNA Chicago will be sponsoring a second endowed scholarship in memory of Marty and Victor Comforte. Newly created endowments from Florida SMACNA and Sheet Metal Contractors of Northern New Jersey endowments also will be awarded.
