Jan. 22, 2003: Lee College Seeks A/C Contest Entrants
The troubleshooting contest again will benefit from corporate sponsorship, provided this year by both Carrier South Texas and Amprobe-Promax-TIF Instruments-Robinair. Prizes, valued this year at $8,000, will include air conditioning tools such as Total Line recovery units, Amprobe instruments, Promax recovery units, TIF instruments, Robinair equipment, temperature testers, refrigeration gauge sets, and digital charging scales.
The troubleshooting competition, which includes both beginner and advanced levels, will begin at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, at the Lee College air conditioning laboratory, Technical-Vocational Building 3, on the Lee College main campus in Baytown.
For the written portion of the competition, participants will complete the Industry Competency Exam (ICE), a 100-question, multiple-choice test, according to Joe Moravek, Lee College air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration instructor. The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) has waived the fee for this exam. Participants also will complete a "hands-on" test of competencies, consisting of 15 problems.
Students are advised to preregister, as seating is limited.
For more information about the troubleshooting competition, contact Joe Moravek at 281-425-6474 or jmoravek@lee.edu.
