IntelliCon® economizers are designed to monitor and analyze the load on the heating or cooling system, in real time, and then modify the way that the burner or compressor would normally be controlled or cycled. According to the company, they work in conjunction with existing controls, do not require seasonal programming, and automatically compensate for load and outdoor temperature changes. For heating systems, the economizers analyze the load or demand by monitoring the outflow water temperature, then intercede and change the way the burner is cycled, the company states. For cooling systems, the economizers analyze the load, or demand, by monitoring how the pre-existing controls (a thermostat or pressuretrol) are cycling the compressor; the economizers intercede and change the way the compressor is cycled.
