High school project uses energy recovery unit

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Engineers responsible for the hvac system design of Parkland High School, Lehigh, Pa., selected SEMCO energy recovery units to augment Trane Company central-station air-handling units.

The building requires 191,500 cfm of outside air ventilation in order to meet ventilation requirements. To meet these needs, 15 energy recovery units, including eight customized EP Models and seven FV standard packaged units, were installed.

The company said its total energy recovery units were selected because they quadruple flow of outside air into indoor environments, without a costly boost in heating and air conditioning capacity.

According to the company, these units make the task economically feasible by essentially taking energy normally thrown out with the exhaust airstream, and putting the energy back in the indoor environment with the incoming air.
