Governor Of West Virginia Announces New School Funds

CHARLESTON, WV — Governor Bob Wise has announced that the School Building Authority (SBA) will provide over $55 million to build and restore schools in 17 counties. The list includes five new schools.

“Our students are West Virginia’s future,” Wise stated. “They deserve safe, state-of-the-art school buildings in which to get their educations, and this funding certainly is a start.”

The SBA chose projects from among more than $200 million in requests from county school boards. Schools receiving the funding are:

  • Berkeley: Addition/renovations at Hedgesville High School — $4,300,000
  • Fayette: Renovations at various schools — $3,982,780
  • Greenbrier: Addition/renovations at Greenbrier East High School — $4,000,000
  • Hancock: Construction of a new Oak Glen Middle School — $8,420,000
  • Harrison: Addition/renovations at Salem Middle School — $700,000
  • Kanawha: Addition/renovations at Elkview Middle School — $1,993,475
  • Lincoln: New Lincoln County High School — $7,500,000
  • Mason: Addition/renovations at North Point Elementary — $971,000
  • Mingo: Addition/renovations at Gilbert Middle School and High School — $4,179,285
  • Monongalia: Construction of a new Westwood Elementary — $5,095,360
  • Morgan: Construction of a new elementary school — $2,815,930
  • Ohio: Renovations and expansion at Wheeling Park High School — $2,000,000
  • Pleasants: Hvac at Pleasants County Middle School — $756,099
  • Pocahontas: Renovations at Pocahontas County High School — $1,900,000
  • Putnam: Addition/renovations at Hurricane High School — $2,264,700
  • Taylor: Addition/renovations at Anna Jarvis Elementary — $960,600
  • Wayne: Construction of a replacement school for Wayne Elementary — $3,894,020
