Firm Awarded for Design

NASHUA, N.H. - The New England Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) awarded the Boston architectural firm of Spagnolo, Gisness & Associates Inc. (SG&A) the 2007 Interior Design Award in the sustainable category for their design of Viega’s North American educational facility.

SG&A was recognized for its innovative use of Viega green building product materials in the interior as a sales and training tool, and the consideration of efficient and environmentally friendly building materials. Its new state-of-the-art educational facility is geared towards an ideal learning environment with its amphitheater-style computer lab, interactive classrooms, and hands-on area. The facility was designed with Viega, utilizing the company’s expertise in the field of plumbing and radiant heating, and incorporating Viega products.

“It is always a pleasure to work with a client that has such a strong corporate mission and an appreciation for sustainable design ideals,” said Jeff Tompkins, SG&A founding partner.

Choosing colored concrete to enhance the heat transfer capability of the Viega radiant/cooling system buried in the concrete slab, the Viega educational facility maintains a consistent temperature year-round. The radiant system is designed to provide a 30 percent energy use savings.

All nominated projects were displayed at the awards gala held at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Along with Viega and SG&A, construction manager J Calnan & Associates Inc. and furniture vendor Boston Light Source Office Environments received recognition for their work on the project.

Architects and members of the New York chapter of the IIDA judged the project nominations. A total of 51 projects were judged and 10 winners were announced.
