Ductless Shipments Show Highest Increase in Fourth Quarter

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - During the fourth quarter of 2010, ductless splits systems shipments showed the highest product sector gain, increasing by 94 percent. Other sectors showing increases included chiller bookings by 48 percent and commercial air conditioning shipments by 17 percent.

Residential furnace shipments decreased by 33 percent, residential air conditioning shipments by 26 percent, and unit heater shipments by 5 percent over the fourth quarter of 2009.

Key figures and trends are as follows:

• Commercial air conditioning shipments increased 17 percent, from 9,557 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 11,170 in the fourth quarter of 2010. Year-to-date shipments increased 13 percent, from 34,434 for the fourth quarter 2009 to 38,777 for the fourth quarter 2010.

• Residential air conditioning shipments decreased 26 percent from 32,766 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 24,212 in the fourth quarter of 2010. Year-to-date shipments increased 16 percent from 193,483 for the fourth quarter 2009 to 224,362 for the fourth quarter 2010.

• Residential furnace shipments decreased 33 percent from 136,978 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 91,781 in the fourth quarter of 2010. Year-to-date shipments decreased 9 percent from 347,694 for the fourth quarter 2009 to 315,330 for the fourth quarter 2010.

• Unit heater shipments decreased by 5 percent from 18,324 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 17,435 in the fourth quarter of 2010. Year-to-date shipments increased 6 percent from 42,763 for the fourth quarter 2009 to 45,467 for the fourth quarter 2010.

• Ductless split systems shipments increased by 94 percent from 3,627 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 7,052 in the third quarter of 2010. Year-to-date shipments increased 72 percent from 34,677 for the fourth quarter 2009 to 59,525 for the fourth quarter 2010.

• Chiller bookings increased 48 percent from 219 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 325 in the fourth quarter 2010. Year-to-date shipments increased 49 percent from 723 for the fourth quarter 2009 to 1,076 for the fourth quarter 2010.
