Dec. 21, 2004: ACCA Offers Class On Employment Law For Contractors

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) announced that it will hold a special two-day workshop on employment law for contractors this winter. "From Hire to Retire: A Contractor's Guide to Labor and Employment Law" will be held Feb. 3-4, 2005, at the New Orleans Marriott.

According to ACCA, the course will provide contractors and their management staff with an in-depth, but easy-to-understand, review of the proper way to manage employees from recruitment to retirement (or, if necessary, termination).

Topics to be covered include:

  • Finding the Right Candidate: Advertising, Interviewing, and Hiring.

  • Your Company's Policy Manual: Why You Need One and What It Should Say.

  • The Alphabet Soup of Law: ADA, FMLA, and Everything in Between.

  • When Employees Become Competitors and How You Can Avoid It.

  • Sexual Harassment and Discrimination: Steps You Need to Take.

  • Safety at the Workplace: OSHA Compliance.

"ACCA gets questions from members every day related to employment law, and we provide many of these answers in the LegalTools section of our Web site," said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA's president and CEO. "However, this special workshop was designed to provide contractors with even more in-depth information about this critical topic.

"Contractors will leave this workshop armed with the tools they need to avoid potentially huge liabilities while creating a positive environment that employees want to work for."

Registration for the two-day course and all materials is $295 per person and is available to ACCA members only. To register, visit www.acca.org or call 703-824-8856.
