Course Focuses on Profits

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Twenty business owners, project managers, estimators, and superintendents spent four days at the PHCC Educational Foundation’s January offering of the “Essentials of PHC Project Management Course,” a training program sponsored by American Standard and Trane. The session, held in Lansdowne, Va., encouraged attendees to examine their management techniques and demonstrated how effective planning can boost profits and productivity.

“Unfortunately, most business owners and their managers have no idea how much potential profit is being wasted every day on every one of their projects,” said Kirk Alter, director of the foundation’s management courses and lead instructor for the Essentials course. “The good news is that it is pretty simple to recapture these lost profits if subcontractors use smarter planning and know the rules of the game. That’s what we teach in this class.”

The next “Essentials of PHC Project Management Course” will be held June 6-9 in Fort Worth, Texas. American Standard and Trane also sponsor the foundation’s “Business Owners Strategic Management Workshop.” The workshop is scheduled for March 14-17 in San Jose, Calif. It is designed to teach contractor business owners and their key staff what they must do to keep their company fiercely competitive in their marketplace.
