Contractors Meet On Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON - The Campaign For Quality Construction recently wrapped up its National Issues Conference. Campaign sponsors, including the Finishing Contractors Association (FCA), the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA), the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA), and the Association of Union Constructors, assembled in Washington to meet with House and Senate lawmakers and staff.

Over 230 members took part in the event, which discussed a number of industry issues, including economic stimulus, multiemployer pension funding relief, health care, private market incentives, tax equality, and commodity price hikes.

Congressional guest speakers included Rep. Nancy Johnson, R-Conn., a member of the House Ways and Means Committee; Rep. Steve LaTourette, R-Ohio; Rep. Don Manzullo, R-Ill., chairman of the House Small Business Committee; and Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.

The conference also presented an analysis on political trends and presidential performance from political commentator Mark Shields.

The 2005 National Issues Conference is set for May 4-5 in Washington. For more information on the 2004 conference, visit www.constructionalliance.org.
