MIAMI - Recognizing the vital role that partnerships play in the development and use of standards, the theme for the 2006 World Standards Day Paper Competition is "Standards Build Partnerships." The 2006 theme was announced by the U.S. World Standards Day Planning Committee and by the Standards Engineering Society (SES), the paper competition's sponsor.

Winners will be announced and given their awards at the U.S. celebration of World Standards Day on Oct. 11 in Washington.

SES and the World Standards Day Planning Committee will award cash prizes for the best three papers submitted. The first place winner will receive a plaque and $2,500. Second and third place winners will receive $1,000 and $500, respectively, along with a certificate. In addition, the winning papers will be published in SES' journal, Standards Engineering, with the first place winner also appearing in a feature article in the ANSI Reporter, a publication of the American National Standards Institute.

All paper contest submissions must be received with an official entry form by midnight Sept. 1, by the SES executive director. For details, go to www.ses-standards.org.
