The ComfortPlenum™ consists of sealed, compact zone dampers built into a plenum. The unit requires less space in the attic, crawl space, or closet because the dampers are not mounted outside the plenum, says the company. The interior perimeter of the plenum is insulated with 1-1/2-inch-thick duct liner supported with duct liner glue and spotter pins. The patent-pending assembly includes a cutting guide on the outside of the plenum that shows where the damper assembly is located on the inside. The damper frames slightly compress the duct liner for a good seal. Each damper is gear-driven and the blades oppose each other as they close, ensuring that air is pressurized into opening zones uniformly. Damper motors are power open/power close with shafts that are made of strong polystyrene. The ComfortPlenum is available in two, three, or four zones. Each one also includes the damper used for static pressure operated (modulating) bypass.
