Brooklyn Law School Joins Demand Response Program

BUFFALO, N.Y., and BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Energy Curtailment Specialists, a private demand response provider headquartered in Buffalo, N.Y., announced that Brooklyn Law School has joined its demand response program known as Operation Save New York.

Through its program participation, Brooklyn Law School, located in New York City, will reduce electricity usage when the grid is forecasted to be unstable. “By enrolling in Operation Save New York, we are creating a positive impact on the environment and our community and focusing our students on becoming more energy conscious,” said Joan Wexler, dean of Brooklyn Law School.

Operation Save New York is designed to increase grid reliability by offering monetary rewards to businesses and institutions for conserving electricity during electric shortage events and shifting electric use from peak periods to off-peak hours. According to Energy Curtailment Specialists, demand response programs currently have the ability to lower total electric demand by over 3 percent in the state of New York.

Brooklyn Law School will receive notice of periods when the electric grid is forecasted to be unstable and it will respond by reducing chiller set points, running its HVAC system at a lower setting a day ahead of time, and turning off lighting, elevators, and non-critical equipment.

During periods when no events are called, like this past summer, members are still paid for being on standby.

“We are very excited to work with Brooklyn Law School and are honored they have chosen us,” said Glen Smith, president, chief executive officer, and co-founder of Energy Curtailment Specialists.
