BOMA wants standardized codes

WASHINGTON — The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International has voiced its extreme disappointment with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).

The issue? BOMA does not like the statement from both groups that they would “collaborate on a compatible set of consensus codes and standards for health and safety in the built environment” without including the International Code Council in the process.

This announcement, BOMA said, is a step backwards in the effort to develop a single “family” of building, fire, plumbing, and mechanical codes.

“BOMA strongly supports the development and implementation of a unified set of building codes as a means of achieving a more consistent and reasonable approach to code enforcement and interpretation,” said BOMA president Richard D. Baier.
