Aug. 28, 2003: Emerson Announces Management Changes

ST. LOUIS — Emerson Climate Technologies, an Emerson business, has announced several senior management changes within its Copeland division.

In making the announcement, Emerson Climate Technologies business group leader and Copeland CEO Tom Bettcher said, "These new appointments reflect both the need within Copeland for proactive and ongoing managerial succession planning, as well as the continued evolution of our business. In particular, as our Emerson Climate Technologies business strategy evolves to address a broader focus on value-added service offerings and integrated HVACR solutions for our customers, we recognize the need to put in place a management structure that aligns with this focus and ensures delivery of our promise to the industry."

Ed Purvis has been appointed group vice president - Emerson Climate Technologies, Refrigeration. In this role, Purvis will oversee all Emerson Climate Technologies divisions serving the refrigeration marketplace, including Computer Process Controls, Clive Samuels & Associates, Copeland's refrigeration division, and Flow Controls (formerly Alco Controls). Purvis also has responsibility for several of the new service businesses within Emerson Climate Technologies, including Design Services Network, Educational Services, and Retail Services.

Clark Hale has been appointed president of Copeland Refrigeration. Hale comes to Copeland from Emerson's ASCO Valve operations in New Jersey, where he most recently served as president of ASCO Valve Domestic. He will relocate to Copeland's Sidney, Ohio, headquarters by October of this year.

Scott Barbour has been promoted to president of Copeland Air Conditioning. In his new role, Barbour will be responsible for the division's sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, quality, and finance functions. He previously served as executive vice president and general manager.

Chuck Spears has been appointed president of Copeland Europe, succeeding Egon Wiethoff who will retire later this year. Spears had been president of Copeland Asia since 1999. Under his leadership, Emerson says, Copeland's business in Asia has generated significant growth.

Bill Bosway has been promoted to president of Copeland Asia. Bosway will manage Asian operations, with responsibility for the Copeland, Flow Controls, and Emerson Motors business interests. He was previously vice president of marketing.

In their new roles, both Barbour and Bosway will report to Eric Evans, group vice president - Emerson Climate Technologies, Air Conditioning. Evans oversees Copeland's air conditioning division, and Emerson Climate Technologies business activity in Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
