ASHRAE Seeks Comments on Refrigerants

ATLANTA, GA — Are you knowledgeable about the newer refrigerants, and willing to share your opinions? ASHRAE would like your comments.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers is asking for comments on addenda for two refrigerant-related standards.

Addendum P to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34-1992, “Number Designation and Safety Classification of Refrigerants,” specifies the data required to determine the flammability classification of a refrigerant. Specific instructions for testing refrigerant blends are included.

Addendum S to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34-1997, “Designation and Safety Classi-fication of Refrigerants,” reassigns the safety classification of R-245fa from A1 to B1. This addendum was previously released for the 1992 standard.

The comment period for the two addenda starts June 7 and ends Aug. 7.

Drafts of these proposed addenda are available only during their public review periods. To obtain electronic draft versions during the comment period, log onto the association’s website at www.ashrae.org/STANDARDS/availdft.htm.

To purchase a paper copy ($18 each), contact ASHRAE Customer Service at 800-527-4723 (United States and Canada) or 404-636-8400 (worldwide).
