ATLANTA - The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) have signed a new agreement allowing ASHRAE members who hold professional engineering designations to join CIBSE without undergoing the normal qualifications review. Likewise, CIBSE members can join ASHRAE without undergoing ASHRAE’s admissions and advancement review.

“Making it easier for ASHRAE and CIBSE members to join our respective organizations furthers the exchange of ideas,” said Terry Townsend, ASHRAE president.

“When our members join other groups, particularly outside North America, they are exposed to new technologies since HVACR technology differs due to geographic, environmental, cultural, and economic requirements. This exposure makes for more well-rounded engineers and more well-rounded engineering organizations.”

According to John Armstrong, the new president of CIBSE, “This is another step in strengthening the links between our two organizations and an opportunity for our respective members to access wider knowledge, information, and guidance, which is now essential if we are to design, construct, and operate more sustainable buildings in the future.”
