April 8, 2004: MCERF Releases Study On Future Of Mechanical Contracting

ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Mechanical Contractors Association of America's (MCAA's) Mechanical Contracting Research & Education Foundation (MCERF) has released the results of a study on the future of the mechanical contracting industry.

According to MCAA, "Five Key Trends for the Future of the Mechanical Contracting Industry" was developed in response to the need for planning to address the marketplace, societal, and technological trends that will create challenges and opportunities for the industry between now and the year 2020.

MCERF commissioned futurist Atul Dighe to conduct the study. Dighe is principal and senior futurist with the consulting firm Social Technologies LLC. He used his trends database, knowledge of the construction industry gained through studies with other construction associations, and a series of focus groups with mechanical contractors, service contractors, and manufacturers to gather data.

The five trends include two challenges - attracting talented workers and identifying new revenue models - and three opportunities - helping rebuild America's infrastructure, sensor technology, and new material technology. The report discusses implications and recommended action steps for each of these trends.

For more information about the study, contact Dennis Langley at dlangley@mcaa.org or 800-556-3653.
