April 18, 2007: MCAA's Institute for Project Management Celebrates 20th Anniversary

ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) has announced that its Institute for Project Management (IPM) has reached a milestone - its 20th year of service to the industry. The IPM was started in 1987 by a group of MCAA contractors who recognized the need for quality project management education. Since its inception, the IPM has graduated more than 1,300 students.

IPM classes are conducted at the University of Texas at Austin’s Thompson Conference Center. Each IPM class is delivered in two one-week segments separated by several months. This scheduling arrangement keeps students from having to be away from their projects for two consecutive weeks.

MCAA’s Project Managers Education Committee (PMEC) governs the IPM. The committee is chaired by MCAA contractor Greg Fuller. IPM classes are facilitated by IPM Director John Koontz and the PMEC members.

Students receive more than 80 hours of classroom instruction and participate in several out-of-classroom exercises. The curriculum is designed to cover every phase of successful project management and present students with systematic strategies for more profitable projects.
