April 17, 2003: SMACNA To Serve On Homeland Security Panel

CHANTILLY, Va. — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) technical staff will join other industry experts on the newly formed Homeland Security Standards Panel (HSSP).

Established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the HSSP is an industry-wide coordinating body for the development and enhancement of emergency preparedness standards. The overall mission of the HSSP is to catalog, promote, and accelerate the development of consensus standards to meet the nation’s homeland security needs and communicate the existence of such standards to governmental agencies and the private sector.

As a member of this panel, SMACNA will have the opportunity to identify SMACNA standards that may be applied to homeland security in areas that include chemical and hazardous materials, energy, public health, and food service.

Additional information about the Homeland Security Standards Panel may be found at www.ansi.org/standards_activities/standards_boards_panels/hssp/overview.aspx.
