WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with Trane and American Standard, announced the recall of Trane and American Standard gas-electric heating/cooling units.

According to CPSC and the companies, a gas leak can occur if there is a crack in the gas valve body near the inlet pipe connection. A buildup of gas in the burner compartment of the unit could occur, which could be ignited by an internal spark. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

The recalled units include: all units with model number beginning with YCP or YCX, and having serial numbers beginning with 3383 through 4475; and all units with model numbers beginning with YCY and YCZ, and having serial numbers beginning with 4282 through 4475.

The independent dealers that installed the units are contacting consumers with recalled units. Consumers who think they have recalled units and have not yet been called should call their installer for more information.
