Sound Blankets are now available for commercial compressors. Their universal-fit design makes them compatible with most brands of scroll and reciprocating compressors from 5 to 30 tons. They provide a 5-dB noise reduction, minimum, which is about a 40 percent decrease, says the company. The blanket has a liner, which traps the sound inside the blanket, where a 1-inch layer of glass insulation absorbs the noise. The two-part design allows the blanket to fit varying heights and girths of compressors. The overlapping seams avoid gaps, and this helps trap the sound inside the blanket. The blanket adapts to accommodate various positions of suction and discharge lines and control box. It has hook and loop straps, making it easy to install and fasten. They are also available in high-temperature models for use with crankcase heaters.
