STAUNTON, Va. — Larry Sambrook, 60, passed away suddenly on July 30. He worked in the HVAC-IAQ industry for a number of years, most recently as a consultant with his own company, the Indoor Air Quality Network.

Sambrook also was an active leader of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) Central Virginia Chapter, and his service to the national organization spanned many years and activities.

Sambrook was a member of the Coast Guard, and was a retired police officer in Orange County, Fla.

In addition to service on the national ACCA board of directors, Sambrook was the current chairman of the ACCA Technical Services Committee, and a member of several other committees related to standards and emerging technologies. He also chaired the committee that developed the ACCA System Cleanliness Standard.

He served as the association’s representative to the Technical Committee of North American Technician Excellence (NATE), and spoke at many past ACCA events, where he was known for his sense of humor and desire to help.

“Larry was a true embodiment of what makes ACCA great — passionate, knowledgeable professionals who are happy to connect with others and share what they’ve learned,” said the association when announcing the news of his passing. “Larry was a valuable member of the ACCA family; his presence will be missed, but his good work created a legacy that will have impact on the HVACR industry for many years to come.”

In addition to his wife Karen (Spitzer) Sambrook, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel and Lori Corbett and Larry Rivera; three daughters, Heather Sambrook, Angel Sambrook, and Tracy Elkins and her husband, Eric; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dominic Sambrook and Chris and Tish Sambrook; a sister and brother-in-law, Christie and Mark Lamprey; and four grandchildren, Elainah Elkins, Emily Corbett, Zoe` DeValiant, and Colin Rivera.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steele Sambrook.

Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, P.O. Box 4005, Charlottesville, Va., 22903, or to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memorial/Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
