Students, faculty, and exhibitor companies made the first Ferris State HVACR Program Career Day a success.
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ferris State University recently hosted its first ever Career Day at the Granger Center for Construction & HVACR on campus.

Five companies joined The NEWS for the event, including: Automatic Mechanical Services, Arlington Heights, Ill.; Emerson Climate Technologies, Sidney, Ohio, Electrical & Durability Refrigeration Division; Harshaw Trane, Louisville, Ky.; Illingworth Corp., Milwaukee; and TAC Energy Solutions, Lenexa, Kan.

Students in Ferris State’s two-year and four-year HVACR programs were encouraged to visit with representatives from each company before and after classes and on the first evening during a pizza dinner.

Mike Feutz, chair of the HVACR department, said, “Ferris State has two university-wide career days per year in a central location on campus, but we wanted to provide a more intimate setting, so we invited employers to set up booths in our own building. This provided a more relaxed atmosphere for both the students and the employers. Formal interviews were also scheduled and conducted on site.

“The venue proved successful, as students were able to stop by between classes and learn about the opportunities available through the various employers. This was particularity valuable for underclassmen that weren’t ready to look for employment quite yet. After all, this industry is all about networking, and this was a prime opportunity.”
