CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — Delmar Cengage Learning and the International Code Council (ICC) have announced the release of the Code Basics book series based on the ICC’s 2009 Codes. Developed as a resource for building professionals, the series is currently comprised of three books — Building Code Basics: Building, Building Code Basics: Residential, and Building Code Basics: Fire.

• Building Code Basics: Building focuses on commercial buildings and details the general purpose of the code. Code references are paired with non-technical explanations, making the book a useful tool for anyone in or entering the field of design, construction, or inspection of commercial buildings.

• Building Code Basics: Residential focuses on residential buildings and follows a logical construction order, beginning with site work and foundation topics and ending with fire and life safety and environmental requirements for a finished building. The book also discusses requirements for plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, electrical system and equipment.

• Building Code Basics: Fire provides comprehensive coverage and strong, clear connections between building and fire-related concepts and the International Fire Code® requirements that govern them. Topics covered include sprinkler systems, hazards in buildings and communities, compressed gases, combustible liquids, and basic requirements for storage and use of hazardous materials.

These books were developed to answer the question “What does the code mean and how do you use it?” According to Delmar and ICC, the series provides detailed, full-color illustrations, real world examples, code references, and tips to help professionals retain information, making these books helpful for anyone working with the codes.
