 The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute is reminding homeowners now is the time to ensure their units are ready for summer. 

 The second edition of “HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics” includes in-depth design recommendations for those who deal with HVAC systems.

 Among the HVAC companies scheduled to attend are AA Service Co., Effective Air Inc. and Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning.  

 The NAHB’s latest Improving Markets Index, compiled with help from First American Title Insurance Co., saw Macon, Ga.; Portland, Maine; Rocky Mount, N.C.; Eugene, Ore.; and Jackson, Tenn., added to the list.  

 An additional 146 contractors, in categories that included appliance, electrical, plumbing and garage door repair, won bonuses ranging from $1,500 to $15,000.   

 In a policy statement released Friday, the department said it would not apply the new requirements under its discretion until the case is settled.  

 “Today’s jobs report is proof that looming budget cuts and economic uncertainty are weighing down job creation, innovation and our ability to compete globally,” said David Foster, executive director of the BlueGreen Alliance. 

 February was a good month for construction as residential, private non-residential and infrastructure spending all saw gains, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.  

A recent survey of National Association of Home Builders members showed more than half say they have had to increase worker wages or bids to secure work.

 Engineers can modify the length, width or height of units in 2-inch increments, making them easier to install, officials say.
