EDITOR'S NOTE

For HVAC Contractors, the Longest Year Is Far From Over

Spoiler alert: Next year doesn’t have to be a bad year for the heating and cooling industry.

By Emell Derra Adolphus
December 14, 2020

If you’re reading this in the December issue of SNIPS Magazine, then we are in home stretch of an impossibly long year. It seems we all have collectedly agreed that things have to be better on the other side if we can just “get through this.”

But the truth is even when the clock strikes midnight and the calendars turn to 2021, the HVAC industry will still be feeling the effects of 2020 for years to come.

Emell Adolphus

Torn from the comforts of trade shows, shop visits and are usual ways of doing business, we’d all be foolish not to take the lessons we’ve learned into next year.

Whether you are an HVAC contractor or sheet metal worker, your most important takeaway from this year needs be education: mainly, to never stop learning.

Company owners would do well to start diversifying their revenue streams — whether it’s adding additional services like duct cleaning to your menu or breaking into new markets. Our 2020 Contractor of the Year, MTech Mechanical, has mastered this and then some, becoming one of the premier mechanical contractors in the country.

Not to be out done, we, too, are diversifying how we do talk about the HVAC contracting business to take a huge step toward focusing on education. If this year is any indication of what is to come, then we all need to learn how to be prepared for everything — which is next to impossible.

But success is a jog, not a sprint, and we are excited to be there with you every step of the way.

See you in the new year.
