The university completed a $75 million project to install a new 100 percent biomass-fired boiler, which is expected to reduce fossil fuel use by 25 percent.

Jan. 7, 2013: CHP for Commercial Buildings to More than Double by 2022

January 7, 2013
Annual installations of combined heat and power (CHP) systems for commercial buildings were projected to reach nearly 39 gigawatts (GW) in 2012. According to a report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, that number is forecast to more than double by 2022, reaching 79.5 GW.

President’s Executive Order Establishes Goal of 40 GW of Combined Heat and Power Capacity by 2020

According to the DOE, more than two-thirds of the fuel used to generate power in the United States is lost as excess heat. On Aug. 30, President Obama signed the executive order “Accelerating Industrial Energy Efficiency,” promoting and facilitating a reduction of wasted thermal energy through an investment in combined heat and power (CHP).
