ABB Automation Inc., New Berlin, WI, has introduced a new "smart" electronic bypass that is fully integrated with the company's new ACH400 adjustable-speed ac drive, providing a single unit that requires minimal panel space, says the manufacturer.

Mark Montesanto, director-distribution sales, noted that the unit "automatically protects the motor from input phase-loss conditions in both the drive and bypass modes," which represents "a breakthrough in drive bypass technology."

Among its design features, contactors for the electronic bypass are protected against dropout or coil failure, and have a ±30% voltage tolerance, to improve reliability. The bypass-drive is said to provide precise operation of single-motor hvac fan and pump applications.
