Editor’s Note: The following remarks were made regarding the “HVAC Refrigerant Cylinders Are Over the Rainbow” article, written by Ron Rajecki, published October 10, 2016, in The NEWS.

THE REJECTED RAINBOW

As a warehouseman, just from a layman’s point of view, the neutral/universal color [scheme] is a terrible idea. Technician safety is paramount, but returned refrigerants can cause enough problems, and now the confusion may increase.  Often enough, the counter staff here will ask, “What is in this return cylinder?” with the answer being, “I think its R-22, R-404, etc.” With all due respect to Maureen Beatty of AHRI, standards need to be set by those who handle these refrigerants on an hourly and daily basis. I will have to give AHRI a one-handed round of applause for this decision.
