Wireless Zoning Gets a Home 'More Miles per Gallon'

GRAPEVINE, Texas - You wouldn't buy a car that got five miles per gallon no matter how inexpensive it was, but every day homebuyers make purchasing decisions based exclusively on a home’s “sticker price.”

As many lenders are starting to recognize, the cost of homeownership is more than just the mortgage payment. Homeowners need to consider insurance, upkeep, taxes, and, of course, the energy cost to fuel the home.

According to Advector Systems, prospective homebuyers and current homeowners should consider the average home’s energy bill can exceed $2,200 per year and the HVAC system can generate as much as 50 percent of the total energy costs.

A new home should have a higher SEER rated system, but new technology can offer much more than that, says the company.

Advector Systems has developed a fully wireless and automated residential zoning system that puts homeowners in control of their energy usage and comfort. The wireless Select Air System extends the reach of the thermostat to every room of the house, providing zoned comfort and energy savings.

Since it is wireless, it is also a cost-effective solution for existing homes.

“One of the major advantages of a wireless system is the installation costs. Typical zoning systems could take days to install and cost thousands in electrical and structural rework,” said Shawn Grennan, Advector Systems managing director. “Our Select Air System can be installed in only a few hours, making it easily one of the most pocket savvy systems available.”

The Select Air System utilizes energy harvesting techniques and RF communications to install quickly without wires. In both new home construction and remodeling applications, the system can provide HVAC energy savings of up to 40 percent, says the company.
