United CoolAir Corp. received a certificate at the York County Board of Commissioners meeting recognizing the company for its part in "National Employ the Older Worker Week." Howard Schildt from United CoolAir's sheet metal department accompanied Martha Wagaman, human resources manager, to the York County meeting to accept the award. Earlier this year, Schildt saw an article about the "Hall of Fame for Champions of Older Workers" and passed it along to Wagaman. After researching the company's employee base, Wagaman discovered that United CoolAir has approximately 28 percent of its total workforce aged 55 or older. "We have found the older workers to be an excellent resource," Wagaman said. "They have a work ethic that is very beneficial for any company. Our older employees have knowledge, skills, and abilities that have grown over the years." She said United CoolAir's oldest office employee is 87 while the oldest shop employee is 83.
