The UltraMax® all-welded plate heat exchanger is designed for use with liquids, gases, or two-phase mixtures at temperatures to 650 degrees F (343 degrees C) and pressures up to 1,015 psig (70 barg) for standard-range units. According to the manufacturer, the heat exchanger's significantly high U values result from the unique turbulence created by the unit's corrugated plates. The resulting velocity profile eliminates stagnant areas and promotes maximum heat transfer, the company says. Large-capacity or multipass configurations incorporate up to five cores within one frame. Eight different plate lengths are available; the largest has an area of 10.65 square feet (0.989 square meters).
