The Retro-Mate® curb is installed on top of the existing curb to adapt it to new HVAC equipment. HVAC units that are larger than the one being replaced can be accommodated, the company says. For example, if the original was a 15-ton unit, the Retro-Mate could house a 25-ton unit, or even a larger unit in some cases. The Retro-Mate is prefabricated from heavy-gauge galvanized or Galvalume® steel and includes 1-1/2-inch, 3-pound insulation, as well as transitions, baffles, and structural supports.
